BMC/DMC Molded Electrical Insulator & BMC/DMC Standoff Insulators

BMC/DMC molded electrical insulators are rigid thermoset composite parts made from bulk molding compound or dough molding compound, a blend of resin, fillers, additives and glass reinforcement that is compression molded into precise insulating shapes. In electrical equipment, the standoff version is used to support busbars and other live conductors while maintaining the clearance and isolation needed inside switchboards, switchgear, control panels and bus-duct assemblies.

What makes this family so practical is the mix of electrical insulation and mechanical strength in one part. Manufacturers describe these standoff insulators as flame-retardant, track-resistant and highly resistant to moisture and heat, with better shatter resistance and tighter height tolerance than porcelain in many panel applications. Brass or stainless inserts are commonly used when better corrosion resistance is needed, especially in humid, outdoor or energy-sector cabinets.

Product Accessories

Commonly paired installation hardware includes mounting bolts, washers, lock nuts, brass or stainless inserts, busbar clamps, spacer sleeves, support brackets, insulating shims, earthing straps and identification labels. For switchboard and busbar assemblies, these insulators are often specified together with adjustable clamps or plated fasteners so the completed structure stays rigid under torque, vibration and short-circuit stress.

Product Advantages

Icon logo

Strong electrical and mechanical support in one compact part

The BMC/DMC structure gives dependable insulation while holding busbars firmly in place under thermal and mechanical stress.

Icon logo 2

Better behavior in heat, humidity and harsh service areas

Molded thermoset standoffs are widely described as moisture-resistant, heat-resistant and track-resistant, which helps them stay stable in demanding panel environments.

Icon logo 1

Easy to tailor for real panel builds

Thread inserts, clamp styles, heights and colors can be adjusted to match switchboard layouts, busbar spacing and maintenance preferences.

FAQ

  • What is the difference between BMC and DMC insulators?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
BMC and DMC are both thermoset molding compounds used for electrical insulation parts. In practice, they are chosen for similar busbar-support and standoff applications because they combine electrical insulation, rigidity and flame resistance.
  • Why are BMC/DMC standoff insulators used in switchgear?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
They support live busbars and keep energized parts separated from grounded metal enclosures, helping maintain clearance, reduce flashover risk and keep the assembly mechanically stable.
  • Can these insulators be customized?
    Created with Sketch.
    形状 Created with Sketch.
Yes. Insert type, height, color, clamp style and mounting hardware are commonly customized to fit specific switchboard or busbar designs.
