Drop-out Fuse Cutout

Drop-out fuse cutout is an outdoor expulsion-type protection device used in overhead distribution networks to protect transformers, capacitor banks, cables, and feeder lines from overloads and fault currents. Covered by IEC 60282-2 for AC systems above 1,000 V, it serves as a compact pole-mounted isolation and protection point: the fuse link carries normal current and operates during faults, causing the holder to drop open for easy isolation and maintenance. It is commonly available in voltage classes from 4.16 kV to 34.5 kV, with porcelain or polymer insulation, flexible mounting and connector options, and compatibility with loadbreak tools in certain designs.

Product Accessories

Mounting brackets such as NEMA Type B, extended, or D-shape styles are commonly offered to match different pole-top installation needs.

Connector options such as parallel-groove connectors and eye-bolt connectors are available on selected cutout families to simplify line connection and field interchange.

Fuse links and fuse tubes are core accessories, with some published designs using removable buttonhead fuse links and interchangeable fuseholder constructions.

Loadbreak tool compatibility is available on selected cutouts, including units equipped with hooks for the portable loadbreak tool.

Cutout-arrester combination units are also offered by major manufacturers for locations that need both overcurrent and surge protection in one compact assembly.
